'Kingsman 3' Happening, Liam Neeson in for Prequel 'The Great Game',
Just to be PERFECTLY clear, we're talking about two DIFFERENT Kingsman films. There is Kingsman: The Great Game which will be a prequel to the two previous titles and is set to hit theaters in 2020, and then there will be the untitled Kingsman 3 which doesn't have a release date yet.
On The Great Game front-
A new report from Variety just casually mentions that Liam Neeson has signed on, as well as Harris Dickinson. Ralph Fiennes, Charles Dance, and Aaron Taylor Johnson have already been announced.
There was some concern about the film's release when the Disney purchase of Fox went through, as more adult titles don't really fit the House of Mouse model. But, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios Alan Horn said that this acquisition definitely opens up the types of things that would be featured in the Disney-owned Fox films. "With Fox, we can make movies that right now I say no to … We always have to think about the smoking policy. The audience for a Disney movie may not know what they are going to see, but they know what they aren't going to see. There are certain things we just can't include because we'll get letters."
That big release date slate of titles included The Great Game, so it sure seems like things are on track.
About Kingsman 3-
Director Michael Vaughn told Digital Spy that the third chapter in the Kingsman franchise will cover the end of Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Harry (Colin Firth) camaraderie.
"We've got to finish off the Eggsy and Harry relationship. The final chapter of their relationship needs to be told, which we've got ready to do, and I'm hoping to shoot that later this year or the beginning of next year," Vaughn said. "But this Kingsman (prequel) has been pushed back to February 14th for coming out, and so, yeah, as soon as that's done, we're looking forward to… It's funny. As Taron was saying, he's looking forward to becoming Eggsy again, because emotionally it's a lot less draining."
The emotionally draining part is of course about Egerton's starring role as Sir Elton John in Rocketman, directed by Dexter Fletcher.
We didn't quite LOVE Kingsman: The Golden Circle, but we're always up for more Taron.
The Great Game is set to hit theaters on Valentines Day (February 14th) 2020. We'll let you know what we hear about the third film.
