DC Studios: Let's Do Right By The Flash, Arrowverse Ahead of Final Run
We wanted DC Studios' James Gunn & Peter Safran to know that the Arrowverse deserves some kind of recognition heading into its final run.
So what's the best way to get across how annoyed we are when it comes to the preview images for the penultimate episode of The CW's Grant Gustin, Candice Patton & Danielle Panabaker-starring The Flash – but passive-aggressively? Well, think of it this way. There are more episodes of the Arrowverse series remaining than there are for S09E12 "A New World, Part Three." And they can't go with the spoilers excuse because we already know that Rick Cosnett's Eddie Thawne is back and they gave us better visuals to chew on in the trailer. I'm hoping for & expecting better from The CW, WBTV, and Warner Bros. Discovery's DC Studios over these next two weeks as the Arrowverse closes its doors. This isn't a promising start… and that's been my biggest concern leading up to the finale. Because it feels like James Gunn & Peter Safran's DC Studios is going to make the same mistakes that Marvel Studios did when it came to how to handle Netflix's previous Marvel series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, etc.). And that involved just kinda shuffling those shows off to the side like they didn't actually exist, to the point where the fans would have to force Marvel to respect what those series brought to the table. And wow! Look how attitudes have changed! But it didn't have to be so dramatic along the way. With the Arrowverse, you have a decade-plus success story that made it possible for more superhero shows to hit our screens – and for the genre to receive some hard-earned respect. Gunn should record a video thanking the Arrowverse for all that it's done for the DCU and how that universe still exists under the "Elseworlds" banner. It's a glimmer of hope and the promise of a tomorrow that the fans have been hoping for… and sometimes, that's all anyone ever needs.
