The View "Kind of a Rigged Show" with "These Crazy Old People": McCain
Meghan McCain claims she's still being "bullied, and yelled at, and abused" by the folks over at The View - and it got worse from there.
Even before officially calling it quits from the popular daytime talk show after her fourth season in 2021, there were rumblings that things weren't exactly running smoothly between co-host Meghan McCain and the rest of her co-hosts on The View. And even two years out from her final run on the show, there still seems to be some bad blood brewing between both sides. "I can't go like a week without something being said about me on the show. The thing about 'The View' is that I didn't know when I signed my contract with ABC that this is forever. That, for the rest of my life, I'm going to be bullied, and yelled at, and abused, and brought up for years. I haven't been on that show in years. I'm just trying to live my life," McCain shared during a recent interview with a political commentator that was posted online, possibly in response to comments made by current co-host Ana Navarro regarding folks who gain influences off of their popular last names. "I just didn't know that when I signed to do this show that I have to deal with these crazy old people just yelling about me all of the time," McCain continued. "I go whole swaths of time without thinking about them, like whole months without thinking about the show or anything. And, apparently, I am just on their minds every day. And it's pathetic."
After alleging that producers were only looking for "someone who will agree with them and say 'all Republicans are evil and conservatives are ruining the country,'" McCain said she realized that the show was no longer for her. From there, the host took a deep dive into the "wacky swap," dropping the eyebrow-arching, brain-bleeding theory that the show's hosts were attempting to have the 19th Amendment (giving women the right to vote) done away with. Of course, McCain pushed back on the idea – and, of course, she did so for all of the wrong reasons. "No, I don't think so. I honestly don't think that, just from working there, that they're that smart. It's a very disorganized place backstage. It's very chaotic, and I think that's giving people that work there a lot of credit that they shouldn't have."
From there. McCain explained how The View was a "rigged" show while also throwing herself under the bus in the process. "I will say, it is kind of a rigged show. At night, all the hosts are given Hot Topics to choose from. So you're like sent news articles you want to talk about the next day. Whatever the majority chooses is the topic of the show. Anything that makes Democrats look bad is never chosen," McCain continued. In fact – based on what McCain had to say next – it got so bad that McCain wasn't given a chance to make the argument that "whatever news story that makes Biden look bad is the number one news story of the day."
So is McCain arguing that she's angry at the show for being politically slanted – or for not being politically slanted in the direction that she wanted? "I had to go in every morning being like, 'Hey, whatever news story that makes Biden look bad is the number one news story of the day,' and there would be a fight over whether or not it should even be aired because the hosts didn't agree on it. And that was always a battle every day. And there were some news stories that they just wouldn't cover because it made people look bad. It's under ABC News, and I don't think that's totally ethical," she added.
