More On The Future (Or Not) Of Rat Queens And Its Creators
Over the weekend, artist Tess Fowler started a two-for-one sale on her Rat Queens original artwork and answered questions about her decision to leave the books. She stated that, despite being assured to the contrary, co-creator Kurtis Wiebe admitted to her that he had lied and that Roc Upchurch, original co-creator of the comic, who left it after domestic abuse charges were made public, was being lined up to return to the comic book.
Kurtis Wiebe issued his own statement contradicting that completely, saying,
Tess Fowler was not removed from Rat Queens to make room for Roc Upchurch. We made our best efforts to find a new voice for Rat Queens together, but I was unable to get to that place despite her talent and enthusiasm. Ultimately, our collaboration was work for hire, and it wasn't working out creatively.' do not know what the future holds for Rat Queens. Despite speculation, I have not made any decisions about its future since the announced hiatus other than needing a break to find its voice again. There are no scripts written, and though I've been looking for a new team to work with, there is no artist attached.

Fowler replied, shedding light on aspects of her contractual agreement on the book,
But he was not alone with statements. Upchurch's ex-wife also updated her blog, supporting Tess and saying,
I can't say that I'm surprised as I always thought this to be the plans of the men involved. I assumed they wanted all of this to quietly go away and then show him as a rehabilitated man so that he was able to make a grand return to the comic book…they just didn't expect the unstable ex wife as one fan referred to me.
As for the media and social media coverage, she states
Ask the man who sent numerous emails and texts trying to convince creators and others in that industry that I was crazy because he punched my in my face…get real.
But
Business is business people. If you want to support that man or that comic book be my guest and I've said that from the very start.
While Tess herself has replied
More pages are available right here…. and there are other good things too.
