Scott Pilgrim Not Leaving Oni – But May Be Delayed In The UK

scott-pilgrimOver the last few days I've had a number of people sent me notes to the effect that Scott Pilgrim was to leave Oni. With five out of the six books published and the film on the way, it seemed an odd decision, and one that smacked of some kind of behind-the-scenes shenanigan.

It's not. It's just a misreading of what is happening.

Because Scott Pilgrim is being published by Harper Collins / Fourth Estate bookstore distribution in UK and Commonwealth countries (excluding Canada) from now on. They won't get the Oni versions anymore (which is why Diamond UK is liquidating what they have in stock – get a bargain UK retailer folks!)

Also expect some kind of omnibus editions from Fourth Estate on the way aimed at the bookstores. And a much better penetration in UK bookstores than Diamond has been able to achieve.

However, for that last, sweetest, sixth final volume of Scott Pilgrim (for which I understand some stores are already planning midnight openings for), there may be a short delay for UK comic retailers, only able to order the Fourth Estate edition.

What does that mean? I'll tell you what it means. The grey market! UK retailers contacting their US counterparts for a little under-the-counter sub-distribution of Scott Pilgrim Vol 6 across the ocean, as they do with the likes of IDW's Doctor Who and the Boom! Disney/Pixar books and League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier.

Oh and the Amazon.com listing of course.

We do like that sweet sweet Scott Pilgrim flavour…
