John Rogers' Backhanded Kick Ass Compliment
There's a bit of an unwritten rule in comics, that you don't slag off another creator or their work. Do-as-you-would-be-done-by is the general rule, and when broken regularly by certain people, it can see said individuals ostracised as a result. It's a rare act, which make it all the more newsworthy when it happens.
Take John Rogers, co-creator of the new Blue Beetle, writer and producer for TV shows such as Leverage, Cosby, Eureka and the Global Frequency pilot, and original writer of the Transformers movie. He just blogged;
Wow, turns out when you pull the racism, misogyny and nihilism out of a Mark Millar story*, you get a pretty fun movie. Kudos to Vaughn for directing the hell out of it, and giving it heart.
*Or, in short, when you pull Mark Millar's writing out of a Mark Millar story …
With the continuing disappointing weekend box-office, seeing the film currently beaten into second place by the already-released How To Train Your Dragon, it looks like the backlash is in full swing.
