Marvel Comics Cancels Guardians Of The Galaxy #151 With No Explanation As To Why (UPDATE)
Well, that was unexpected. Guardians of the Galaxy #150 is one of Marvel's big books for January, alongside Avengers #675 and Phoenix Resurrection. Lots of incentives, billed as the Return of Adam Warlock, it also also labelled part one. But for some reason, it seems that there won't be a part two.
The solicit for Guardians #150 reads thus:
GUARDIANS OF GALAXY LH #150
(W) Gerry Duggan (A) Marcus To (CA) Alex Ross
THE RETURN OF ADAM WARLOCK Part 1
That's right – as more and more parties take an interest in the Infinity Stones, a man with serious Infinity experience joins the fray! Plus: Nova Rocket leads the charge against the Raptors!
Rated T+In Shops: Jan 03, 2018
SRP: $4.99
All as you might expect. And then we get the solicit for #151:
GUARDIANS OF GALAXY #151
(W) Gerry Duggan (A) Michael Allred (CA) Aaron Kuder
THE RETURN OF ADAM WARLOCK Part 2
Adam Warlock is back! But how? And why? Has he come as a savior? Or is he here to take the Infinity Stones for himself? Find out as the galactic tale of the Infinity Stones' return enters the next exciting phase!
Rated T+In Shops: Jan 17, 2018
SRP: $3.99
But not anymore. Its status at Diamond Comic Distributors is now "Cancelled". Not postponed, not to be resolicited at a later date, simply cancelled. This kind of cancellation of an already solicited book from Marvel is quite a rarity. I wonder what's going on? And will Guardians #150 explain it?
Guardians of the Galaxy was also recently not-relaunched as part of Marvel Legacy and seemed to be playing a part in the storylines that will lead to some kind of Infinity War crossover at Marvel Comics to tie in with the release of the next Avengers movie. And with Adam Warlock appearing, infinity stones being teased, this did seem the way things were going.
Just not anymore.
Will Marvel's February solicitations due fairly soon provide any more information?
Marvel Comics have not yet replied to earlier enquiries.
UPDATE: But writer Gerry Duggan has teased…
