The Black Tapes: NBC Developing Supernatural Podcast for Series
With the success of Amazon's Homecoming fueling interest in adaptations of serialized fictional podcasts and Facebook Watch set to adapt popular podcast Limetown (with Jessica Biel and Stanley Tucci) comes word that NBC is developing a series based on supernatural drama podcast The Black Tapes. The project is written and executive produced by Matthew Arnold (Emerald City), and podcast creators Paul Bae and Terry Miles; with Guymon Casady and Ben Forkner executive producing for 360 Productions and Universal TV serving as main studio.
The Peacock Network's The Black Tapes adaptation follows a journalist's investigations into the unexplained supernatural mysteries caught on tape by a skeptical scientist. Each week the two of them embark on a journey exploring the literal and figurative ghosts that haunt them both.
Originally broadcast beginning in May 2015, here's a look at Bae and Miles The Black Tapes podcast:
The Black Tapes is a bi-weekly podcast from Pacific Northwest Stories and Minnow Beats Whale, and is hosted by Alex Reagan. The Black Tapes is a serialized docudrama about one journalist's search for truth, her enigmatic subject's mysterious past, and the literal and figurative ghosts that haunt them both.
In the first episode of The Black Tapes, our host enters the strange world of paranormal investigation and encounters the enigmatic Dr. Richard Strand: a ghost hunter who doesn't believe in ghosts. We follow Alex as she attempts to unlock both the secrets of Strand's collection of mysterious black VHS cases, and the dark and mysterious past of the enigmatic man himself. This is The Black Tapes. Do you believe?
The Black Tapes has proven itself to be a heavyweight within the podcast community with 41.5 million downloads to date; with the series consistently ranking on Apple's iTunes Arts top 10 chart in America, and the top 50 chart in Canada, Australia and the UK.
