Angela Will Play Big Role in New Series After War of the Realms

When Marvel purchased the rights to Spawn character Angela from Neil Gaiman in 2013, it was a baffling move to most in the industry. First of all, nobody cared about Angela at that time other than Gaiman, Marvel, "The Great One" Brian Bendis, and Todd McFarlane. And Marvel only cared about Angela to get Miracleman, Bendis only cared about her to please his buddy Gaiman, and Gaiman only cared about her to spite McFarlane and rub his nose in the lawsuit he had just won for the rights to something called "Medieval Spawn," which also nobody cared about, because, let's be honest here, most people can barely even bring themselves to care about regular Spawn.

But somewhere along the way, Angela, against all odds, managed to become a fan-favorite character, based largely on her relationship with Sera. So of course, Marvel went and canceled that relationship because they enjoy watching their fans suffer. But maybe things are about to turn around for the daughter of Odin, as Angela is set to play a "central role" in a new series spinning out of War of the Realms, according to Marvel editor Wil Moss. Moss was interviewed by Newsarama's Chris Arrant, and when asked about Angela, he dropped the big news.

Nrama: Due to the nature of solicits, we already know some of what's to come in the finale: "unexpected allies … that will shake the heavens" and Malekith having something with "a VENOMOUS bite". For the first one, can you say if that is indeed Angela – seeing as how she's from Heven?

Moss: Angela is indeed in War of the Realms #6, but for her big moment during this war – a moment that's been coming ever since we learned her true origin in Original Sin: Thor & Loki — don't miss Asgardians of the Galaxy #10. And Angela plays a central role in a big new series spinning out of War of the Realms that we haven't announced yet (but soon will be!).

So it looks like we can expect big things from Angela in the near future, first in War of the Realms #6, and then in this unnamed new series. We'll surely learn more by San Diego Comic-Con, if not sooner.
