"Bill & Ted Face the Music" Casts Their Most Excellent Daughters
Orion Pictures has announced the casting of Brigette Lundy-Paine and Samara Weaving to play the title characters' daughters in Bill & Ted Face the Music. The Bill & Ted franchise follows Bill S. Preston Esq (Alex Winter) and Theodore S. Logan (Keanu Reeves), a.k.a. The Wyld Stallyns as they time travel their way through history in a phone booth. While their first film in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) had the duo gather important figures in history fo a school project, the sequel in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey had them reclaim their place on earth after getting killed by their robotic dopplegangers, who are on a mission to ruin their reputation. Their third adventure in Bill & Ted Face the Music has the two protagonists grown up with families in a search to make their career-defining song.
Lundy-Paine (Atypical and The Glass Castle) will play Billie Logan, daughter of Ted, while Weaving (The Baby Sitter and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) will play Thea Preston, daughter of Bill, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
When we saw Samara and Brigette together, it was like deja vu," producer Scott Kroopf said in a statement. "It was exactly the way we felt when we first saw Keanu and Alex. We are so thrilled to have this funny and unique pair join the Bill and Ted team!
With George Carlin's passing in 2008, Rufus, Bill and Ted's guide and mentor, won't be recast according to Winter. But the film will pay tribute to Carlin. William Sadler, who plays Death in Bogus Journey, will reprise his role.
Reeves previously told THR, "I'm sure they can't help but have a bit of their mothers and fathers in them. So we'll see how that expresses itself."
Creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon wrote the screenplay for Face the Music with TV veteran Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) directing. Joining Kroop in producing duties are Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce of Hammerstone Studios. Stephen Soderbergh, R. Scott Reid, John Ryan, Jr., Scott Fischer, and John Santilli serve as executive producers.
You can see Lundy-Paine in the Jay Roach film, Fair and Balanced, scheduled for December 2019. Weaving will be in the film Ready or Not, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, scheduled for August 2019 release.
Bill & Ted Face the Music comes to theaters August 21st, 2020.
