"Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045" Netflix Shares Major Tease

I think television animation is about to hit a new golden age, especially as the different streaming services ramp up production to compete for viewers in an increasingly crowded market. Netflix has been hitting all the sweet spots lately, with Voltron: Legendary Defender just wrapping, the second season of The Dragon Prince setting up a major cliffhanger, and soon, we'll have a new Ghost in the Shell series, exclusive to the streaming giant.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 was picked up in December, 2018, and Netlfix has hired Ultraman directors Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyami to bring the series to life. The directors confirmed that Ilya Kuvshinow will be heading up character design for the show.

Variety spoke with the directors in France, and they had they shared the following image of the Major:

Ghost in the Shell has always employed cutting-edge animation, and this newest version looks like it will be doing the same. The Major looks fantastic, and I can't wait to see the rest of the team!

According to Variety, this will be the first time that Ghost in the Shell will be completely rendered in 3D computer graphics:

The series will be the first time the IP will be fully-animated in 3DCG. Kamiyama and Production I.G will team up with Aramaki and Sola Digital Arts, who have brought Japanese 3DCG animation to the world on work such as 2004's "Appleseed." The Netflix reboot also marks the first time that the franchise will have two directors shaping its execution.

Kamiyama and Aramaki will be using digital motion capture technology, much like they did on their recent Ultraman series for Netflix. This will allow for a greater realism in movement for the characters, and could be a real game-changer for the future of animation.

We'll have more information on Netflix's new Ghost in the Shell series as we get it!
