DC Offers 3 Comics for Retailer Exclusive Variants
Three? In one month? From DC Comics? While Marvel Comics is usually happy to offer up handfuls upon handfuls of retailer exclusive cover variants, which rarely get taken up, DC Comics seems to offer one every other month, which every retailer dives in on and orders thousands of copies .
It's an effective, if expensive, way for both parties to a) get some promotion and create collectables for the market, and b) up their orders. Begun by Dreamwave back in the day, it was popularised by IDW and now Marvel Comics does it more than anyone else with anywhere between five and fifteen titles a month.
Could DC Comics be planning to catch up? Because DC Comics have told retailers that three such titles will be made available in this fashion. Legion of Super-Heroes #1 by Brian Michael Bendis and Ryan Sook. Inquiries from retailers must be received no later than Friday, September 6th. All orders must be finalized by Friday, September 20th and it has an on-sale date of November 6th.
Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Blackest Night #1 by Tim Seeley, Kyle Hotz and Dexter Vines. Inquiries from retailers must be received no later than Friday, September 6. All orders must be finalized by Friday, September 27th and it has an on-sale date of November 13th.
And Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Infinite Crisis #1 is by James Tynion IV, Aaron Lopresti and Matt Ryan. Inquiries from retailers must be received no later than Friday, September 6th. All orders must be finalized by Friday, October 11th and it has an on-sale date of November 27th.
