Supermom is Expecting Trouble, Later Today

Supermom: Expecting Trouble is an action-comedy about a superhero named Voltra who is out to stop her archnemesis from taking over the world. There's just one problem: she's pregnant… and he's the father.

Published by Action Lab with the first issue hitting the shelves today, Supermom is five issues of big laughs and crazy fights. There's evil monkey clowns, giant flesh monsters, pyromaniac romantics, a doom-bringing opera singer and (worst of all) a superhero baby shower for Voltra to survive. This all builds to a big finale where the world's strongest mother fights the world's evilest father over the fate of their child as well as the planet.

The creative team is me, Gordon Mclean, artist Caio Oliveira, colourist Fahriza Kamaputra and letterer Frank Cvetkovic. A truly international team representing the UK, Brazil, Indonesia and USA respectively.

This is most personal and emotion-laden comic project I've ever worked on because of how it came to be. My Uncle David was a big supporter of my work and loved Caio and I's previous comic. He was always asking when we'd be making another one and my reply was always that we just didn't have the money. When my Uncle David passed he left me money in his will to make another comic with Caio.

My mother Jean was a big influence on the comic. A lot of story beats are a "superhero spin" on my memories of her, especially when she was pregnant with my little sister. I kept this secret because I wanted it to be a surprise when I put issue one in her hand and revealed the truth. I never got the chance. Cancer took her just like it took my Uncle David.

I've done everything I can to try and make this comic the best I possibly can because of the wonderful woman who brought me into the world and inspired so much of Supermom and the kindly uncle who showed me such heartbreaking generosity and support in his final months.  I hope I've done them both proud."
