A Proper, Actual, Movie-Style Trailer (In Comics Form) For Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Pulp
I am rather against the way most comic book publishers run previews for comic books. Lining up the first five or six pages is a lazy cop-out way to tease a new comic book, especially when it might only be twenty pages in length anyway. At Image Comics, the likes of Robert Kirkman and Kieron Gillen have arranged more interesting previews, more akin to movie or TV trailers which tease select panels with commentary, rather than just show the first twenty minutes of a film.
Well, Ed Brubaker has done such a thing for Pulp, his new original graphic novel with Sean Phillips and Jacob Phillips, following on from their best-selling My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies. These are not pages from the comic. In the manner of the Trainspotting trailer, these are just for the teaser…
PULP HC (MR)
(W) Ed Brubaker (A) Jacob Phillips (A/CA) Sean Phillips
A gorgeous original graphic novel from the best-selling creators of KILL OR BE KILLED, MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN JUNKIES, and CRIMINAL.Max Winters, a pulp writer in 1930s New York, finds himself drawn into a story not unlike the tales he churns out at 5 cents a word – tales of a wild west outlaw dispensing justice with a six-gun. But will Max be able to do the same, when pursued by bank robbers, Nazi spies, and enemies from his past?
One part thriller, one part meditation on a life of violence, PULP is unlike anything the award-winning team of BRUBAKER and PHILLIPS have ever done. A celebration of pulp fiction, set in a world on the brink. And another must-have hardback from one of comics most-acclaimed teams. In Shops: May 27, 2020 SRP: $16.99
