"The Blacklist": Red & Liz Accept NBC's Season 8 Renewal Mission

NBC's The Blacklist received a new assignment on Thursday, and its one we're pretty sure Red (James Spader) and Liz (Megan Boone) are willing to accept. With still a month to go before the series returns for the second-half of season 7 (two back-to-back episodes are set for Friday, March 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT), the spy thriller-drama has received a greenlight for an eighth season.

"Congratulations to our incredible cast, producers and crew, all of whom continue to reach excellence week in and week out. We couldn't be more excited to continue Red and Liz's story into season eight."

– Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment

Currently in its seventh season, "The Blacklist" is averaging a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.6 million viewers overall in "live plus seven day" Nielsens to tie as the season's #1 Friday drama in most current 18-49 season standings. With the addition of digital and linear delayed viewing to date, the show's Oct. 4 season premiere has grown to a 1.6 in 18-49 and 8.1 million viewers.

After being abducted by Katarina Rostova, Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader) finds himself alone in hostile territory, unsure of who, if anyone, he can trust. Surrounded by old enemies and new allies, Red must stay one step ahead of the Blacklist's most dangerous criminal, who will stop at nothing to unearth the very truth Red wants no one to know about. To find it, Katarina will insinuate herself into the life of Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone), who has finally reunited with her daughter Agnes. Katarina's presence will bring danger to Liz's doorstep and forever alter her relationship with Red.

Created by Jon Bokenkamp, NBC's The Blacklist stars James Spader, Megan Boone, Diego Klattenhoff, Amir Arison, Hisham Tawfiq, and Harry Lennix. Bokenkamp and Spade executive produce alongside John Eisendrath, John Davis, John Fox, Lukas Reiter, J.R. Orci, and Laura A. Benson. Davis Entertainment produces, in association with Sony Pictures Television and Universal Television.
