A Few Fun Thoughts About Marvel Now: Divided We Stand, Today
Marvel is a town without mutants. Unless they are Deadpool. There are seven Deadpool related titles I can count. Did I miss any?
Mind you, they have also reduced the amount of Inhumans titles, it seems, to Uncanny Inhumans and Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur.
Miles Morales/Spider-Gwen is a love match that I'm hoping Peter Parker will be around for.
The biggest change is the bad guys getting titles. Deadpool's Mercs For Money getting a title each. Kingpin, Bullseye, Doctor Doom as Iron Man. As well as ongoing books like Punisher. Never have Marvel published quite so many titles starring out-and-out killers. They are definitely narrowing the line, Venom looks back to his old self, and Captain America is still Hydra.
As Marvel has lost a number of big name writers, they are doing their best to hire and increase the prominence of their replacements, with new names to Marvel like Matthew Rosenberg, Jeremy Whitely and Elsa Charretier who have made their name elsewhere.
Gendercrunching may be down later this year. There's a few cancelled books with prominent female creators, and numbers may be down on replacement titles. It may also be worth pointing out that the only new named female writers are on female lead books. This may be an issue worth raising at the Women At Marvel panel at San Diego Comic Con.
