Alex Segura – When The Publicist Becomes The Publicized
Years ago, Alex Segura used to work for Newsarama. He then moved to DC Comics's PR. Once, using goodwill alone, he managed to get me not to use a preview image of a piece of Superman artwork that DC had released with uncensored topless women on it.
It was a different time.
He also sent my kids this. It remains my favourite unboxing video to date.
He's bounced back and forth between DC Comics and Archie Comics since. And is currently Archie Publicity SVP (and sometimes Archie comic writer).
But now he has his own stuff.
Alex has two mystery novels hitting later this year from indie publisher Polis Books. There's nary a KISS member in sight, too.
His first novel, Silent City, is being reissued in March after an initial release that saw some good buzz for his Pete Fernandez series, set in Segura's hometown of Miami. April will see the debut of Down The Darkest Streets, the sequel, in hardcover, ebook and audio.
You can pre-order both books now, which I'm told helps authors – even those with day jobs in comics.
