Battle the Forces Of Evil Using This Old Weird Trick

The brainchild of Zack Dolan (writer, pencils) and Justin Piatt (writer, letters), 'SUPER!' follows the exploits of a ragtag team of underachieving supers in their quest to truly become heroes. Whether foiling a robbery as the surrounding neighborhood is decimated by a 150-foot Utonic robot, or finding themselves encased in ice after glacial fisticuffs with Baron Blizzard and his team of post-apocalyptic hockey miscreants, our heroes simply don't know the meaning of the words "public liability".

What She's Wearing Will Shock You!

One of the areas the creators of SUPER! wanted to tackle is the proliferation of the "boob window" in modern comics. In order to fight crime, do you really need a triple-L bust, 17-foot long legs, and half a canister of dental floss for your costume? Can real women be super?
I'm being rhetorical, of course. The real question isn't whether they can be super, the question we should ask is: why haven't they been? The difficulty here is creating a character who embodies true feminist ideals without devolving into a preachy feminist trope. Her actions, her dialogue, her mannerisms; they all need to come from a natural place. She doesn't know she's a champion of gender equality. To her, she's just a superhero living in a universe filled to the brim with other super powered beings, trying to carve out her niche and make a name for herself as a crime fighter. 'SUPER!' cover girl Blitz is the realization of those ideals. She's sexy, she's powerful, she'll beat your ass into an electrically charged pulp if you cross her, and most importantly, she is a believable, strong female character.

When Everyone is Super…

With as many heroes as DC or Marvel have lying around their universes, you'd think they would bump into each other a little more often than they do. Trouble is afoot, this looks like a job for Dar…nope, never mind, three people in blue spandex and a grumbling pile of rocks just strolled through and took care of it for me. What would happen if all of those supers and their teams really did exist in the same universe outside of the occasional crossover issue?

SUPER! strives to answer that question. It's packed to critical mass with colorful and zany characters, like the Furious Fire-Ant, a smart-mouthed acrobat in an armored ant suit who is basically what would happen if the Blue Beetle was an irresponsible drunk. There are mad scientists, magicians, monsters, mimes, and even a smirking man-child called The Streak who can run at supersonic speed…but only when he's nude.

Nobody Steps on a Church in My Town

Comics are an amazing medium and have been used to address any number of social issues and real world events. From physical disabilities to the devastation of the World Trade Towers, comics have long been a coping mechanism for many generations, and one of the most important aspects of that is: comics are fun! Superheroes are larger than life, and sometimes we need to be reminded that good does triumph over evil, that there will always be light somewhere in the darkness.

'SUPER!' is as big and as fun as comics get, but beneath all the spectacle and Baysplosions lies a genuine story about people—people who struggle to not only save the world, but to find their place within it. From the stresses brought on by an alcoholic, judgmental stepmother, to the stark, painful reality of a long-forgotten geriatric superhero whose only real nemesis now is incontinence; 'SUPER!' effortlessly blends the stupendous and nonsensical with a heartfelt touch of humanity. Coupled with engaging stories and a colorful cast of characters, 'SUPER!' will remind you why you fell in love with comics in the first place.

Amidst the craziness and chaos of a new comic universe where supers are commonplace, the greatest story of our generation is about to begin…
