The Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, 11th August, 2019 – Batman Beats the House and the Carnage

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait till the weekend to get this week's comics. Batman takes the top, but it was close, just ahead of House of X and Absolute Carnage, with DCeased close behind. Die entered the Top Ten, right behind Immortal Hulk, with the launch of Coffin bound also sneaking in..

Not a bad week.

Big week for Donny Cates at FFF with Absolute Carnage just mopping the floor with all of the other titles that came out. Babyteeth also made the Top Ten at #6. It's good to have it back on the shelves for sure. It's one of those books where some readers only get the one title. Back to the Absolute bestseller of the week. If I wasn't so sure in the selling power of the creative team, I'd be shocked to see an $8(!) book sell so well. But sell it did. To see Hickman's X-Book already fall to the #3 spot is a sad one indeed. That isn't to say it didn't sell well. We're still seeing totally new people come in to pick up the first two books as well as the new issue this week. I'm more than confident in the power of Powers of X to hit the #1 spot again next week. Sitting pretty between Marvel's two powerhouses was DCeased, a definite fan favorite. I think we'll be selling copies well into the trade printing. Another returning fan favorite, Die also sold solidly and actually outsold Batman. The back half of the Top Ten are Old Reliables in the form of Savage Avengers, Justice League, Buffy and Immortal Hulk. They're all titles that have been consistent in their sales and have proven a loyal fanbase. They sell well and I see them continuing to do so for the foreseeable future.

Folks seemed even more excited for the second issue of Hickman's House of X than they did the first, which is really saying something. It's nice knowing that the X-Men relaunch has really caught some palpable interest and doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon. It is a little odd to me, however, that House of X is selling more than Powers of X, considering the two stories are linked. Gotta wonder how many folks are missing out on the big picture. Knowing Absolute Carnage was out this week – a title customers have been asking about nearly all year – I wasn't sure that HoX would manage to beat it out in sales, but lo and behold, it did, and I think it's got a lot to do with the hefty $7.99 price tag. Had a lot of people taken aback when it came time to pay, wondering just what it was that hiked their bill up so much. Those two giants aside, it was a pretty average week, but Batman continues to sell fewer and fewer copies at our shop. Die #6 came back remarkably strong from its break, now that everyone has had time to catch up. Excited to see if it continues to build momentum.

Today the weather is nice. Anyhow, for this week's comics it looks like the X Men is on everyone's minds, should be a good story. It is also cool that Die and Coffin Bound seems to be taking off. Good for them.

HOUSE (and POWERS) OF X both launched with dominating sales at our store, and with HOUSE OF X #2 in particular being possibly the most ambitious single X-comic in two decades it's no surprise to see it sitting at the top o our list. Miles ahead, even, of our second place seller: outselling it threefold.

That second pace is unsurprisingly BATMAN. Following that is Marvel's Most Reliable Book IMMORTAL HULK, as well as the launch of brand-new Spider-Event ABSOLUTE CARNAGE.

The carnage (in the general sense) continues in the middle of the list with (not)Zombie romp DCEASED.

Despite having a major triple-A title from one of the Big Two ruling the roost, this week also managed to mix things up a bit more than usual with two Image books selling very well: the brand-new COFFIN BOUND, as well as the always-excellent DIE.
