Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 18th January 2015 – Any Guesses?
This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.
In its long (ish) history, Bleeding Cool has never had an occasion when every participating retailer has voted the same comic as their best seller. There has always been dissent, no matter how much a comic has been pushed. Until now….

Who had this to say…
Star Wars was the obvious big seller this week, probably 20% of the week's sales with all the variants. Jupiter's Legacy was not completely forgotten during its long absence and still performed respectably. This would have been a good week for other publishers to have some big books out since Star Wars brought a lot of eyes into the shop, and many lapsed customers, but many people just walked out with one copy of Star Wars.
Amazing Spider-Man late 1960s/early 1970s never stop selling. Sold a Mr. Miracle #1 this week which is always a pleasure when someone expresses interest in Kirby's Fourth World.
Star Wars was obviously the title of the week. We had many parents and children come in to the store looking for issue 1 that we've never seen before, so somehow they heard about it outside of our email/ website/ etc channels. Our sell through was about 50% on the regular cover, with a lot of action on the Ross & Young covers and little interest in any others.
Walking Dead continues to be a destination book for our subscribers – monthly stoppers usually come in whichever week WD comes out. I honestly wasn't sure that Star Wars would outsell this book but it easily doubled it.
Another week of solid books and sales. Marvel won the week with some licensed sci-fi book. I don't know.. Didn't read it.
Astro City was DC's highest charting book for our store. Its so nice to have it back. Batgirl has always sold pretty well for us and it continues to now.
Walking Dead was near the top as usual. Though for single issues, Saga is our best selling Image book.
Star Wars easily took the top spot. Regular cover did great. Variant covers did not. A few of the Scottie Young variants sold the rest are still here. Too many to pick from was a common complaint. Batman Eternal still doing well. Suicide Squad keeps going up the chart. And I still have not ordered enough. SHIELD 2 could have been better but sold out on Wednesday. SHIELD is doing a lot better than I expected. Walking Dead still brings in new first time comic readers. Solid sales for new comics this week.
Suicide Squad. Legends with the Suicide Squad is now seeing some love. The news of the Suicide Squad movie is doing wonders for all things with Suicide Squad.
No surprise, but Star Wars was the top book of the week. I actually sold a lot less than i thought i would. I should be the only store in San Diego though with the book still on the shelf for cover price when the movie comes out.
Back-issue market is reflecting the mover for the week. People were picking up Star Wars for the old series, both Marvel and Dark Horse.
HOLY CRAP STAR WARS! This was a wild week in new comics. Star Wars #1 easily took the #1 spot and that says a lot when it's a Walking Dead week. But Star Wars not only brought people in specifically for that book but also brought in a lot of new faces and people we hadn't seen in ages! I think we're just beginning to see the amount of Star Wars insanity that's coming our way leading up to this new movie. It seems like Marvel did everything right with this release and it was an EVENT, unlike when Dark Horse released their book with the original cast. It sold well but not like this. Jupiters Legacy was long overdue but customers were very excited to see it on the racks this week and it sold awesome, but that's the usual with Mark Millar books here. Funny seeing the difference in sales between Avengers #40 this week and Avengers 34.2. When are Marvel going to stop doi ng this? Customers HATE the POINT whatever books. They hate them. I think this week we might have sold 10% of what we sold for Avengers #40. They are too confusing and rather than try to figure it out, customers just skip them.
Ms. Marvel back issues have been selling like crazy these past couple weeks. Even the multiple printings. Marvels non-stop pushing of this character seem to be paying off!
Its no surprise that Star Wars #1 was the big winner this week. Lots if hype, a movie trailer and lots of buying for friends. I truly this holds up for this series and the Darth Vader one.
Lots of shocked faces when Jupiter's Legacy was in peoples pulls. Many had forgotten all about it in the 10 months since the last one.
SHIELD #2 just missed my top 10 which is a good sign. More than just a flash in the pan.
Not a lot of interest yet in a Wolverine weekly without Wolverine. At the end of the day I asked my team one question? What did we sell besides Star Wars #1?
Yesterday, was a Great day for most retailers for this Awesome title. We had our second best Wednesday in history because we sold more of everything else then what we knew we were going to sell in Star Wars.
The key was that a portion of fans that came in yesterday were Star Wars fans not Comic Book fans. Our job was to sell them more comics by asking them key questions. What other movies do you like? Did you know that Dark Horses has some older great stuff as well? Do you know what a subscription box is?
Wednesday we sold;
15 Civil War Trades
13 Avenger vs X-men trades
10 Wolverine Old Man Logan trade
10 Blackest NightIn total we sold over 120 trades to new Comic Book Fans.
Star Wars #1 was a great Platform for New Comic Book fans, that walked out the door, with more than just Star Wars #1 in their bags.
Amazingly enough, we sold more of our first-place title (Star Wars #1) than we sold of our second through sixth place titles combined!
Suddenly, there's a resurgence in interest in back issues of Marvel's original Star Wars run, too.
Didn't even have to count the STAR WARS #1 variant covers for STAR WARS #1 (regular cover) to still decimate the competition and outsell ranking #2 by double the number of books.
