Comic Artist Eleanor Davis Arrested While Protesting Immigration Policy At Georgia Board Of Regents Meeting
Comic artist Eleanor Davis was among eight people arrested earlier today while protesting the Georgia state university system's policies which, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "Bar immigrants without legal status from attending five of the state's top universities and paying in-state tuition at its others." Board members ended the meeting as the protest began, according to the newspaper, with the protest group using the phrase, "To come for one of us is to come for all of us."
Fantagraphics has published a collection of Davis' work called, How to Be Happy. She has also contributed to Fantagraphics' MOME anthology, and has self-published several comics, including The Beast Mother. Davis also teaches comic book storytelling classes at the University of Georgia. In 2009, she won the Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award.
Just yesterday, Davis tweeted that Slate had just posted an excerpt of You & a Bike & a Road, the story of a man she saw get arrested in West Texas.
