David Mack Appreciates Reference To His Covers In Posters for Echo

Echo first appeared in Daredevil #9 in 1999, co-created by the writer David Mack (who also did the covers) and artists Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti. She was then picked up by Daredevil writer Brian Bendis in his New Avengers series drawn by David Finch, in disguise as the character of Ronin. Maya Lopez, the adoptive daughter of the Kingpin, of the Cheyenne Nation and a deaf superhero who hid her disability, Echo used a white handprint that covers part of her face.

Maya Lopez is an Olympic-level athlete possessing photographic reflexes, the ability to perfectly copy other people's movements, including a concert-level pianist, martial artist, acrobat, ballerina and pilot, she has also gained Daredevil's acrobatic abilities and Bullseye's aim after watching tapes of their fights. More recently, she was chosen by the Phoenix Force, empowered by a spark of the Phoenix's cosmic fire and eventually becomes the new host of the entity as the new Thunderbird.

Alaqua Cox played Maya Lopez in the television series Hawkeye and now in the new series Echo, which launches in three days on Disney+. And the character's creator noticed.

The TV series will see Maya Lopez return to her hometown where she must come to terms with her past, reconnect with her Native American roots, and embrace her family and community Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen were initially attached as head writers, later Marion Dayre and Amy Rardin serve as head writers with Sydney Freeland leading the directing team. Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Zahn McClarnon, Cody Lightning, Graham Greene, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Charlie Cox also starring and reprising their Hawkeye, Defenders and Daredevil roles.
