DC Comics Cancels Absolute Gotham By Gaslight

DC Comics solicited a reprint of their very first Elseworlds book, Batman: Gotham By Gaslight by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola, which spawned so many alternative takes on the DC Comics icons, in their Absolute format. Oversized, hardcover, slipcased, a format originally pioneered by Scott Dunbier at DC/Wildstorm for Absolute Authority, and then got copied by everyone else. Well, it is not to be. DC Comics has now informed retailers that they have cancelled Absolute Gotham By Gaslight, which would have also contained the sequel and other appearances of the Victorian Batman, and that the contents will be solicited again in a different format. Possibly a smaller one. Here's what was promised…

(W) Brian Augustyn, Jeff Parker (A) P. Craig Russell, Eduardo Barreto, Greg Tocchini, Evan Shaner (A/CA) Mike Mignola
The groundbreaking Elseworlds tales of the Victorian era are back in a new Absolute edition! This volume includes the breakthrough tales Gotham by Gaslight and Master of the Future which pit the Dark Knight against Jack the Ripper and a death-dealer from the skies over Gotham City! This collection also includes further appearances from the Victorian Dark Knight, including Countdown Special: The Search for Ray Palmer: Gotham by Gaslight #1 and Convergence: Shazam! #1-2.
