DC Comics Creates Its Own Bored Ape NFT For One Star Squadron
Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), or simply Bored Ape, is a non-fungible token (NFT) collection on the Ethereum blockchain. The collection features profile pictures of apes that are generated by an algorithm. The project launched in April last year, and owners are granted access to a private online club and intellectual property rights for the image. In December, the Bored Ape Yacht Club overtook CryptoPunks as the highest-priced NFTs and sales of the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs have totalled over $1 billion. Adidas bought one in September and Eminem, Gwyneth Paltrow, Shaquille O'Neal, Snoop Dogg, Mark Cuban, Post Malone, Stephen Curry, Paris Hilton, Jimmy Fallon, and Serena Williams are among various celebrities noted to have purchased Bored Apes. And now? Well DC Comics has decided to make their own Bored Ape. And are putting it in print instead. An AFT, as Stephen Colbert has it.
The comic book series One-Star Squadron by Mark Russell and Steve Lieber has portrayed the stories of a struggling superhero group in a world that doesn't owe it a living, and trying to establish themselves amongst social media, modern app society, corporate culture and a growing lack of respect for any and every authority figure. With Red Tornado waiting in reception to talk to his own conglomerate bosses. And being put in the picture.
Seems like this company has turned its own Bored Ape NFT into an AFT. Because, of course they did. Why not own a superhero team as well? One-Star Squadron #5 is published by DC Comics today. No minting required.
