Hail Hydra! Marvel's Axel Alonso Spoils Captain America: Steve Rogers #2 – Can We Join In?
Over at ComicBook.com, Marvel EIC Axel Alonso has revealed a few spoilers from tomorrow's second issue of Captain America: Steve Rogers #2 by Nick Spencer and Jesus Saiz.
It's almost as if he was an agent of Hydra himself.
We'd tried to be a little reticent in our own article yesterday, but clearly it seems all such whimsy is off the table.
In the article Axel states that Steve Rogers' revealed past as an agent of Hydra was indeed, as we had originally surmised, from the Red Skull messing around with reality-changing cosmic cubes.
What we hadn't run was that the cosmic cube in question was Kobik, the sentient splinter of a cosmic cube given form as a young girl.
That it was she who changed Steve Rogers into the Hydra agent he is today.
And that she did so, as she had been under the influence of the Red Skull the whole time.
Which also means that the Kobik we see in Thunderbolts right now is also still under the control and influence of the Red Skull. Sorry Bucky.
What Axel doesn't say – though you can surmise – is that this change happened when Kobik made Captain America younger, reverting him to his more familiar state. Because she is the Red Skull's cosmic cube, she has been indoctrinated into believing that what would make people happy, perfect, the best they can be is if they were fully Hydra. To that end, you can also look forward to the Red Skull reading Kobik a bedtime story while she clutches a Hydra doll.
So if you are looking for a first appearance of Hydra Captain America, then Captain America: Sam Wilson #7 is the one you are looking for.
Oh and the next time anyone complains about anyone spoiling a Marval comic book, remind them, the boss man does it deliberately.
