Looks Like Iceman Forgot To Tell Kitty Pryde Something (Iceman #2 Spoilers)
So we all know Iceman is gay now. Even Stan Lee does, these days. First Jean Grey read the mind of the young Bobby Drake and outed him to himself that he was gay. And no, not bi, all the way gay. And then young Bobby Drake told old Bobby Drake that since his younger self was now out and proud, maybe older Bobby Drake should get with the programme. And he did. Young Bobby Drake has been out to gay clubs and has hooked up with a hot young Inhuman, straddling the mutant/Inhuman divide. Old Bobby Drake… hasn't been up to much in that arena. He has been talking about it though. And today in Iceman #2 by Sina Grace and Alessandro Vitti, Kitty Pryde, his most recent ex-girlfriend finds out. And wants to have the talk. Obviously this means that at that moment their Blackbird has to crash but eventually they get round to it. And talk.
Oh, and yes, there is an X-Man called Goldballs. I keep forgetting that.
Kitty Pryde, making it all about her again.
But there's one other thing about this narrative that has struck. When it was revealed that Young Iceman was gay, there was concern that Old Iceman would not be gay, making sexuality seem more of a choice. This was done away with a conversation that was far more awkward than the one above. And yes, Old Bobby Drake admitted that he must be gay as well.
But later, much later, it was revealed that actually the young All-New All-Different X-Men were not the past selves of the present day X-Men after all, but from a parallel dimension. And there are a lot of those around. Although that contradicted the moment that Young Cyclops' heart stopped and Old Cyclops vanished. But everyone seems to have ignored that now.
But it also meant that Old Bobby Drake didn't have to be gay just because Young Bobby Drake was. No more than Colossus has to be gay because Ultimate Colossus was. Different dimension, different events, different genes…
Is your head hurting now?
