The Comics Journal Doesn't Know Its Art From Its Elbow… (UPDATED)
It's been called the journal of record for the comics industry. The constant critic, holding an industry's feet to the fire. I've read it for decades, been inspired, influenced and enraged by it. But now we all have the chance to laugh at it.
In The Comics Journal's mighty issue three hundred, there is a wonderful discussionbetween Frank Quitely and Dave Gibbons on their respective careers, influences and thoughts on the medium and the industry. Really, it's superb. Can't recommend it highly enough. Along with illustrated examples of their work, with full accompanying credits.
Except that Dave Gibbons get a little short shrift. Because this panel was actually from a Ro-Busters strip was actually drawn by Kevin O'Neill.
And later on we see the wonderful Abslom Daak, Dalek Killer, of which I spent many an evening copying when young. Except, as any fule kno, it was drawn by Steve Dillon.
Now I'm sure there's a huge chunk of "mote and beam, more and beam" to be flung back in my direction. But still.
Ha ha ha.
