"By The Knitted Beard of Warren!" – Saturday Morning Runaround

ellisbeardBeardWatch: Thanks to Manolis Vamvounis for his Warren Ellis/styled balaclava. And all the people he's going to get to pose in it. This is going to be the new Mr T sweater isn't it?

DoctorWhoWatch: David Tennant wants to be in The Avengers movie, according to the Reader's Digest. A young Jarvis perhaps? Brits always end up playing butlers…

LibraryWatch: This seems to be the ongoing news story – does your library have a copy of League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier. According to this report, they couldn't find one…

TVWatch: Andrew from the new MTV Real World has a reputation in DC for creating "politically incorrect" comics.

Why, do they claim that McCain won the election and that Reagan was a socialist?

Sorry, I just hate that term. Why can't people just use "rude" instead?

DigitalWatch: 09:15. No, seriously, the digital comics reader on the PSP will launch with 500 titles, everything from X-Men to Cancertown. Still no mention of DC Comics yet. Something, somewhere, is going to crack.

DistributionWatch: Print-to-order is transforming the availability of the comics work of Howard Cruse, whose Stuck Rubber Baby is getting reprinted from DC Comics next year. But its his less known work that is his concern. He says;

In the long run some 'real' publisher may yet be moved to take on 'Felix's Friends' and 'From Headrack to Claude' and market them through conventional channels. Because I have retained my copyrights, this will remain possible. In the meantime, however, it's satisfying to be able to offer each of these books to their appropriate audiences without making a burdensome investment, which frees me from worrying that much about sales numbers. It's also useful to have copies of these two books available to sell personally when I travel to make talks promoting my higher-profile, conventionally published books.

Because there is no editorial filter at all, of course, where your book falls on the amateurishness-to-quality scale depends entirely on the level of capability you brings to the table… Garbage in, garbage out — to cite a brutal truism. But as is true with the Internet in general, no one can stop you from having fun making the results of your creativity available to others, no matter how skilled you are. No one is going to stop you with a rejection slip.

Would anyone dare, Howard?

SexWatch: Sex And The Superhero is a new tongue-in-cheek, risque-but-nonporn comic by Brian Andersen and Neftali Centeno about five gay superheroes who meet up on a regular basis to, well, gossip. Chat. And occasionally fuck.
