Late Angoulême Founder's Comics Collection Found… In The Street

Claude Moliterni, co-founder of Angoulême, the largest comics convention in the world, as well as the equally-famous Lucca comics festival died last January, the day before the 2009 event. One of the greatest names in modern comics, comics publisher, evangelist and promoter, his legacy in European comics is immeasurable.

Which is why it was very peculiar, a couple of weeks ago, to find his personal effects, files, correspondence and comics, even an original artwork, littering a rain soaked street in Paris…

Theories revolve around a second hand book dealer who bought his possessions, stripped out the valuable and dumped the rest. But whatever the cause, it's a disconcerting and irreverent postscript to the life of one of the few men responsible for the modern face of European comics.
