San Diego Comic Con Wants Hotels To Commit Rates For Five Years
While Los Angeles, Anaheim and others are still in the running to snatch Comic Con International from it's decades-long home of the San Diego Convention Center, the show is making moves that indicate a wish to stay in its current location.
After issues with the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel this year, Comic Con international has asked hotels in the vicinity to commit to providing hotel rooms during the show at fixed rates – and to sign a contract to that effect. A successful outcome here is being seen as a way to commit the show to the city until 2015 at least – indeed Convention Center managers have told the hotel groups that it will be a necessity. Executive Vice President Sandra Moreno wrote an e-mail to hoteliers saying;
This request for signed hotel contracts does not ensure that San Diego will be selected. However, if room block contracts are executed successfully to reflect hotel commitments made … we believe San Diego will be city of their choice.
All three cities have upped their bids with sweeteners of late to entice the show, but a decision is expected within the next month. No other cities have been asked about fixed hotel rates in the future, however…
