Saturday Trending Topics: Vengeance Of Bane
The internet got another look at Tom Hardy as Bane today, in both pics and video. And while it's tough to tell too much from what we've seen without more context, optimism remains high that Nolan+Batman=Good. Will the character make a cinematic comeback after his widely-panned depiction in 1997's Batman and Robin? I wouldn't bet against it.

DC Comics Listens To Batgirl, Makes Changes
At San Diego Comic Con, one thing you couldn't escape from at the DC panels was the issue of gender. Thanks to one woman (known as Kyrax2 on Twitter) dressed as the Stephanie Brown Batgirl who went to all of the panels to ask question, then follow up question, then follow up question, creating a narrative across the show, asking about the lack of female creators in the new DCU and the lack of prominent independent female characters, something snapped.

Well that was fast. Earlier today I wrote about DC making plans for female-creator female-friendly projects, some of which as as a result of concern expressed at San Diego Comic Con about a massive reduction of female creators in the DC Relaunch.

First Review: Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
The original Planet of the Apes films are not hard sci-fi by any means, but fantasies with rich allegorical value. From the very first reports on Rise of the Apes, (originally Caesar, and now Rise of the Planet of the Apes to hammer the connection home, though, honestly, the chance of anybody missing the links, ahem, are pretty slim indeed) I was writing about how this film seemed set to reinvent the series' mythology within a context of more relatable, real world science.
