The Battle Of The Kick-Ass 2 Solicitations

The Battle Of The Kick-Ass 2 SolicitationsIn last month's August Marvel Previews, Kick-Ass 2 was listed on the order forms, but not in the Marvel Previews. An odd choice, the explanation was given that it was a last minute decision to take advantage of the Kick-Ass DVD release, though some suspected it was due to Marvel demands that they be allowed to debut Kick-Ass 2 before it was serialised in the September-published UK magazine CLiNT.

This week Kick-Ass 2 #1 showed up in a Previews Update with Diamond Code APR108276, along with a few Marvel second prints and a Bumper Edition of the first two issues of IDW's Kill Shakespeare. Which seemed a very underplayed way to solicit the new issue of such a major series to retailers.

Then the September Marvel Previews, Kick Ass 2 #1 is solicited properly, but listed for sale in August. With a new order code, JUN100640.

And more importantly a new price.

Last month, Bleeding Cool highlighted that Kick-Ass 2 was still going to be a $2.99 book, alongside Nemesis. That Mark Millar was unique at Icon at pushing that price point, and was a beacon of affordability in a Marvel that was turning to the $3.99 dark side for almost every book.

You can guess how much Kick-Ass 2 #1 is being listed for now, can't you?

$3.99.

Milloi Milloi lama sabachthani…

UPDATE: Mark Millar reports on Millarworld that this is an printing error and that the book is still at $2.99. This is a welcome relief for some who see Mark as the last bastion at pushing an affordable price point on his comics.

With missing out a printed solicitation last month, and getting an major error in this month – what's the third unlucky thing? Well, with two order codes out there now for the same issue, it could get complicated…

Note – this is not the final cover but it may give an indication as to how the "2" may be used as a cover framing device.
