William S Burroughs Graphic Novel 'Ah Pook Is Here' To Be Published By Fantagraphics
Thirty years ago, William S Burroughs wrote a comic strip with Malcolm McNeill on art, The Unspeakable Mr. Hart for the magazine Cyclops. When the publication folded, the pair kept going, creating an unpublished narrative that escaped the confines of the comic strip into that of a novel-sized comic strip. After 7 years creating the 120 pages, intended to fold out as a continal narrative, but finding no one to publish such a strange concept at the time, it was abandoned.
Now Fantagraphics will publish it under its original title Ah Pook Is Here in two volumes next summer packaged with McNeill's memoir about working on the project.
The book takes the Western anf Mayan mindsets and puts them at odds, with billionaire newspaper magnate John Stanley Hart looking for immortality from Mayan texts, but in doing so summons Ah Pook, the Mayan Death God as the past invades the future to infect it.
Thankfully it's not being published in 2012. Just in case the world no longer exists to publish it in.
