The Return Of Avenger X To The Avengers (SPOILERS)
It was teased back in the first issue of the relaunched Avengers series written by Mark Waid…
Hands bursting from a gravestone inscribed "Here Lies Avenger X Bravest of Us All". But who how where when what? Well Mark Waid has also been writing the Avengers Point series with artist Barry Kitson, which saw the second Avengers team, as originally formed in the sixties, taking on a new member, Cressida from Northern Thailand.
Whose powers amplify those of the Avengers, criticised for not having enough offensive power.
And gaining her a codename.
Only for her to seed dissent within the ranks…
Even as her powers drain the lives of those around her.
And after a fight with the Frightful Four that she manipulates, the Avengers work out what's going on.
However, she makes an escape – only to meet up with the Frightful Four, who are less forgiving.
And she is murdered by them, buried alive in a grave with the Wizard carving an ironic epitaph.
But in the conclusion to today's Avengers #6 by Waid and Mike Del Mundo, in their battle across timelines with Kang, that there has been a small rewriting of history.
And the burialplace of Avenger X now moved…. and also given a more professional carving and squared off stone than the Wizard gave it…
