Road To Civil War II Tie-Ins Coming And New Civil War Titles Launch In June
Marvel's SVP of Sales & Marketing, David Gabriel talked to his old employee and now EIC of Comic Book, Jim Vascardi, about Marvel… stuff. And they're serialising their chat over the next few days.
Bleeding Cool told you that Marvel were to launch Road To Civil War books, and that's confirmed but a limited number "just a handful of them like Ultimates & Iron Man" running after Avengers Standoff. But it does highlight our belief that Ultimates is a rather important book regarding the shape of the Marvel Universe.
And he also promises a few Civil War 2 series launching in June. Only the X-Men series has been announced to date. There will be no equivalent to the Front Line series of the original Civil War.
They did announce these Michael Cho lithographs, but no news as to whether these are the mystery Civil War II promotional item previously mentioned or not…
Gabriel also talked about Marvel relationship with the retailer community, saying,
We are always checking on the strength of the retail community, the strength of the direct market, and always checking with Diamond on a weekly basis to make sure that store count is always always on the positive side.
I get monthly reports from Diamond on how solid everybody is. Pretty much every promotional item we send to retailers has to answer two questions. First is always how well the direct market and the retailer's respond to this? We want to figure out how they will use it. And second, what problems could this cause? We try to fix all those before anything goes out to the direct market. That is also not just promotional items that are freebies. We still consider the variants part of promotional material and we are always checking and rechecking. If we make a mistake on something that we do with variants we are always open to fixing that and making it better.
More to come it seems…
