Speculator Corner: Wolverine Saudade #1 (UPDATE)
Wolverine Saudade was a comic book published in 2006 by Panini France's Marvel Europa, by Jean-David Morvan and Philippe Bouchet and was a big success.
In 2008, it was reprinted and translated by Marvel US. And practically ignored.
But in 2017, it seems destined to be a speculator hit.
That's because it stars one character Andre Mexer, born in a Brazilian slum dumpster to a 12 year old mother who died from the experience, and whose body was thrown away. Andre survived and grew up on the streets, leading a gang of gun running kids – until his mutant telekinetic powers emerged, which he used to protect his gang.
Then they tried to rob Wolverine. Wolverine called in Professor Xavier, another mutant was detected, there was a fight, other gangs and thugs got involved, Mexer was kidnapped, his gang were executed and Wolverine tracked Mexer down, fought the other biokinetic mutant, killed him but failed to save Mexer, who had been lobotomised.
Wolverine killed everyone, rescued Mexer, and sent him back to the US where he was hired as a powerless janitor.
And that was the end of that. Mexer has never appeared in another comic book.
Well, in a PR piece for Marvel.com, X-editor Daniel Ketchum writes
If I say, "A beloved X-Man returns and will lead the X-Men into the future," who will readers think I'm talking about?
Who is Andre Mexer, again?
Let's be honest: Katya and Tatianna were the real winners of All-Stars 2.
It's always the Phoenix. Always.
Well, as to the second point, maybe we'll find out exactly what happened to Andre Mexer. And maybe people might want to pick up Wolverine Saudade… currently selling for as little as $1.25.
UPDATE: And… suddenly it's an $8 book.
