Todd McFarlane Rewrites Those Early Issues (Again) In Spawn #295… (Spoilers)

Spawn by Todd McFarlane and Jason Shawn Alexander is heading towards its 300th issue. Something that will see McFarlane put his head above the Cerebus parapet. And in doing so, with today's Spawn #295 counting down to the big number, he's going back to the basics of Spawn and rewriting what once was.

Originally Al Simmons was a marine and government assassin, killed by his friend and partner and who made a deal with the Malebolgia to see his wife again. However, when Simmons returns to the human world, five years have passed and he has been transformed into a demonic creature and Wanda has moved on. His new reality was explained to him by Violator. After he ripped his heart out that is.

Not that this seemed to stop Spawn.

Something that rather annoyed the Violator.

And wanting to take it up with the bossman.

Twenty-seven years later, the Violator has a different chain of events to explain…

So now the Violator helped create Spawn – all Spawns – and really should have a better handle on what was going on. And rather than this Spawn being special, there are at least five more powerful…

And if we needed any more ideas being dug up, the recent revivals of Cy-gor, Overkill and the Freak also get brought back to… well, not life, really.

As Spawn gets a few more powers as well, reflecting his new reality too…
