Dune: Spice Wars Unveils A New Gameplay Trailer
Funcom dropped an awesome new trailer this morning for Dune: Spice Wars as we get a better look at the gameplay for the 4X/RTS title. The video is great as it is giving you a look at how the game will play out in its many aspects from harvesting spice, to setting up outposts and bases, to preparing your units to defend what you're doing on Arrakis. It also serves two purposes as it shows you how the gameplay harkens back to the original PC titles from the '90s while showing how they've expanded on those original principles to bring a much more robust title out with modern gaming mechanics. So in essence, you're seeing both a new game and a love letter at the same time.
Developer Shiro Games also announced this morning that you'll be able to try the game out in Early Access sooner than expected as they are planning a Steam version to launch in the Spring. That version of the game will come with several important updates scheduled out to slowly bring players into the game, including the introduction of multiplayer, more factions, and a full campaign. You can check out the gameplay trailer below along with a quote and more info on the game as we wait to hear about an official release date.
"This is a universe we care deeply about, and there are millions of fans out there who feel the same strong connection with the source material as we do," said Sebastien Vidal, CEO of Shiro Games, the studio that also developed the highly successful Northgard. "We're die-hard Dune and strategy nerds, so this is very much a game by fans, for the fans."
Dune: Spice Wars will have several playable factions, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as multiple ways to achieve your ultimate goal – control of the spice on Arrakis. You can deploy agents to sabotage, assassinate and spy on your opponents, use political means to influence the Landsraad and pass beneficial resolutions, amass incredible wealth and simply overwhelm the other houses through economic and technological supremacy, or you can opt for open war.
