Ben Affleck Says His Batman Movie Isn't A Definite Thing

Ben Affleck has been acting very oddly regarding his Batman movie since it was announced he was directing. Warner Brothers trotted him out at SDCC to announce he was directing the solo Batman movie in the DCEU, which isn't something they'd do unless they were sure. These things have dates and schedules after all.

However, Affleck has been quite standoffish about the film when asked about it. He seems to be suggesting he is taking his time, waiting for it all to come to him, and that he will take as long as he wants.

Well, he has now come out and said that the movie isn't even a definite thing. Speaking to the Guardian, Affleck said that the movie won't happen if it isn't great. When asked if he was directing the film, he said

That's the idea. But it's not a set thing and there's no script. If it doesn't come together in a way I think is really great I'm not going to do it.

This is an admirable stance to take, but it really does have me scratching my head about what is going on behind the scenes here. Did Warner Brothers announce this a little before they should have? Is Affleck playing down how impending the release date is? Is this some kind political maneuvering? Something seems at odds here, and I hope we find out soon.
