Birds of Prey Adds Charlene Amoia to the Cast
The cast of Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) continues to grow. The movie is shaping up to be one of the more interesting entries in the DC Universe. Harley Quinn was the breakout character of Suicide Squad and giving her an all-girls spin-off is a fun little idea. Star Margot Robbie seems very passionate about this project and everything is better when the people involved are passionate. Even if this movie ends up being a hot mess it will be more interesting because of that passion.
It's way too early to tell if it'll be a hot mess. They are still filling out the cast and according to Deadline Charlene Amoia of How I Met Your Mother fame has joined the cast. The article is reporting that she will play "Maria Bertinelli, the mother of Mary Elizabeth Winstead's vigilante the Huntress Helena Bertinelli and the wife of mafia syndicate gangster Franco Bertinelli."
Warner Bros. is pushing an interesting angle with this one. It's going to be low budget (for a superhero movie) and R-rated. Movies like Deadpool and Logan have proved that there is an audience for R-rated superhero movies. Now it's Warner Bros. turn to try and tap into that market.
Summary: After splitting up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya – come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord.
Birds of Prey, directed by Cathy Yan, stars Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez and Ewan McGregor. It will open on February 7th, 2020.
