DC Collectibles At Toy Fair 2015: Everyone Needs A Super Pet
By Brian Goldberg
On the final day of Toy Fair 2015 I was lucky enough to get a quick walk through of the DC Collectibles showroom space. It was obvious DC Collectibles has upped their game to anticipate the wants of collectors. Story driven merchandise is still the modus operandi for their line of action figures and props.
Art Baltazar's children's book series, Super Pets, is getting the plush treatment. Krypto, Hoppy, Streaky, and Dex-Star will be created in a high quality plush with a retail price of $14.95 and hitting shelves in early 2016. As a fan of Red Lanterns and kitties, Dex-Star stood out as the runaway plush.
Props will also be getting their due. A breathtaking life-size replica of Dr. Fate's helmet, Death's ankh necklace, Flash's ring, Commissioner Gordon's badge, and a light up Mother Box will be hitting comic store shelves. A new set of Justice League tarot cards are also in the works. They look as realistic as they are "ooh shiney." The Bleez and John Constantine statues have stunning sculpts.
Action figures released to coincide with CW's Arrow and The Flash will also continue into the next year. The quality of previously launched figures have been maintained. Batman: The Animated Series will get further waves including Roxy Rocket, Phantasm, Mad Hatter, Bane, Nightwing, Scarecrow and Penguin.
Figures based on Terry Dodson's Titans: Earth One have stellar sculpts. The release of this line also surprised me. DC Collectible is really going after their niche market.
The stock photography of the brand new DC Icons line do not do the action figures justice. If a collector gets a closer look at the Crisis On Infinite Earths version of Barry Allen Flash and his cosmic treadmill, you will be transported into the story. The facial sculpts on the figures from this line show a great improvement in their facial expression from their predecessor's.
I left the DC Collectibles booth with one question. How can I get that Dex-Starr plush released a little bit sooner?
