The Defenders: Here To Solve "One Big Problem" And That's It
There is a pattern in Marvel movies that has become very apparent. The solo movies are when characters go through their arcs and grow as human beings while the Avengers movies are the fireworks shows. The development we get in those is the team dynamics and how these characters bounce off of each other. The formula works for the movie it stands to reason that the Marvel Netflix series will be doing the exactly same thing.
In a new interview with Screen Rant Deborah Ann Woll pretty much confirms that The Defenders will be about one problem needed to be solved while the character stuff waits for the next solo series.
"I think it's also good to remember that Defenders, because we're bringing everybody together, it's a little bit of a one-off, for lack of a better word. It's going to kind of come together, solve this one big problem, and then you know we all have to go back to our own shows, so we don't want to spend too much time of The Defenders kind of working on our interpersonal stuff. It'll be interesting, and we'll definitely address it, but you're probably looking for Daredevil Season 3 in order for a really strong resolution to that stuff."
When Woll is talking though she is referring to Matt Murdock aka Daredevil as far as evolution of character goes. Defenders is only eight episodes long so they don't really have the time to set up a band guy and give everyone a personal journey. Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have already been green lit for second seasons that are shooting now, Daredevil has a third season that is rumored to start filming by the end of the year, and Iron Fist just got a second season though we don't know when.
Summary: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist team up to fight crime in New York City.
Marvel's The Defenders, created by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez, stars Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Sigourney Weaver. It will stream to Netflix on August 18, 2017.
