John Carpenter Has Laid Into Rob Zombie Over The Halloween Remake

Rob Zombie's version of Halloween certainly has its cult following. While it didn't land with too many critics, the film's take on Michael Myers has garnered some love with Horror fans.

It seems that the original's director John Carpenter, isn't among them though. To be fair, it seems there is a personal dislike there that taints his opinion. Speaking with New York Film Academy Students (via iHorror), Carpenter still holds some animosity over Zombie saying that Carpenter wasn't supportive of the remake. He said:

He lied about me. He said that I was very cold to him when he told me that he was going to make [Halloween]. Nothing could be further from the truth. I said, 'Make it your own movie, man. This is yours now. Don't worry about me.' I was incredibly supportive. Why that piece of sh*t lied, I don't know. He had no reason to. Why did he do it? So, frankly, that will color my response to the film.

If I take that away, I did not… I thought that he took away the mystique of the story by explaining too much. I don't care about that. He's supposed to be a force of nature. He's supposed to be almost supernatural. And he was too big. It wasn't normal.

As Carpenter admits, it does seem like this is a personal problem, but his criticisms line up with other popular ones. I think the remake has merit, but it is certainly interesting to finally know Carpenter's take.
