The X-Men film franchise seems to be in a weird place at the moment. Coming off the underwhelming X-Men: Apocalypse, and stars like Jennifer Lawrence saying she'd rather be in 'Guardians of the Galaxy than another X-Men film', it's a little unclear about what the future holds for the series. Of course, there is Logan on the horizon, but that feels like something quite to the side of the current main series.
Now it seems that even Magneto himself, Michael Fassbender, isn't 100% sure if he will be back to the franchise. Speaking to The Empire Film Podcast (via ScreenRant), Fassbender hardly seemed enthusiastic about the prospect saying:
I don't know to be honest. I haven't made any sort of decision on it because I have no idea what's happening next with the franchise to be honest.
This, of course, isn't any sort of show of intent of leaving the role, but it is hardly a commitment to it either, which is significant. It's not clear when or how young Magneto will next turn up, so he might not need to for some time anyways.
