Star Wars Standalone Movie Loses Writer

StarWarsOne of the planned Star Wars standalone films has lost its writer. Gary Whitta (The Book Of Eli) was working with Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) on the untitled project and completed a first draft of the script but has now exited the film. A new write will be hired. Whitta had this to say:

"The year I spent working with Lucasfilm on this Star Wars film has been by far the most rewarding period of my entire career. As a lifelong Star Wars fan I'm deeply grateful to have had the rare opportunity to contribute to a new chapter in its ongoing cinematic legacy. The film is going to be amazing."

What project Whitta is moving on to is unknown at this time, but he is attached to Fox's upcoming adaptation of the comic Starlight by Mark Millar.

The Star Wars standalone is set for a Dec. 16, 2016 release date.
