8 Songs from 2006 That Would Make a Better TV Show Than 'Hey There Delilah'
By now you've no doubt heard the news: the Plain White T's song 'Hey There Delilah' is being developed as a TV show. Pitched as a "contemporary fairy tale", the series will expand upon the song's themes and story. But what sounds like a songwriter's adorable ode to his long-distance girlfriend is in reality something else — Plain White T's frontman Tom Higgenson had apparently been introduced to Olympic hopeful Delilah DiCrescenzo and, despite the fact that she had a boyfriend, became smitten and told her he was going to write a song about her. Enter 'Hey There Delilah' — a song about their hypothetical relationship from his perspective. (They never got together.)
Well… if someone's gonna make a TV show about a song from 2006, we can think of a few that might be a better idea.
Welcome to the Black Parade
One of the all-time emo anthems — how could you go wrong? One look at the music video and you can see the potential. If you weren't privy to the inspiration behind the song (and the album) at the time, it follows the story of a cancer patient being guided into the afterlife by a macabre manifestation of his most cherished memory in life: his father taking him to watch a parade.
Maneater
This one's easy. She's a maneater! How about an homage to the classic horror flicks of the early/mid-20th century?
Supermassive Black Hole
You could go with pretty much any song from Muse's 2006 album Black Holes and Revelations, but we chose this one for its sexier, more dangerous feel. Lots of space-set shows have that muted, metallic, almost clinical aesthetic — how about one with a sort of dark, grungy, pseudo-gothic look? We'd watch that.
Ms. New Booty
Think about it: A fresh-faced young female pirate sets off on her first sea-bound adventure. Mystery, intrigue, betrayal, and a whole lot of booty.
Love Like Winter
Want to do a "fairy tale"? Here you go. Star-crossed lovers living in a distant realm must endure a neverending winter, all the while evading a mysterious, seductive entity trying to feast on their blood.
Hips Don't Lie
A compulsive liar is cursed by a trickster demon who decrees that every time they tell a lie, their hips will swell larger and larger in size. Comedy? Drama? Horror? The possibilities are endless.
The Crane Wife
In 1949 New York City, a crane-maker's wife makes waves by proving she's the best crane operator in the world. Oh, also, she's a bird.
The Best of Both Worlds
A spirited and ambitious teen girl has a secret identity: a world-famous pop star. But what happens when her two worlds threaten to collide? It's set up perfectly for a TV sho– What's that? Oh.
