AEW Double or Nothing Loses Britt Baker, Rey Fenix to Injuries
It looks like at least two out of the three AEW Dynamite injuries were serious enough to cause a change to the card for AEW Double or Nothing. Both Rey Fenix and Britt Baker are unable to compete at the PPV event in Jacksonville tonight, and AEW has announced their replacements. Wednesday's episode of Dynamite featured three unfortunate spots involving Britt Baker, Rey Fenix, and Matt Jackson. Though Jackson is apparently still able to compete in the Stadium Stampede match, both Fenix and Baker have been replaced.
".@ReyFenixMx is out of the #CasinoLadderMatch due to injury. Fenix isn't expected to miss significant time. @JANELABABY is now entered in the Casino Ladder Match. 1 mystery wrestler is still TBA. DOUBLE or NOTHING is available on all major providers @brlive @FiteTV tomorrow 8/7c," the AEW twitter count posted along with an updated match graphic, revealing Joey Janella will replace Fenix in the match.
Fenix was involved in a dive to the outside of the ring on Wednesday in which he missed his fellow competitors and landed hard on the floor. Thankfully, it doesn't look like Fenix will be out for a long time, but it was bad enough to cost him participation in the ladder match at AEW Double or Nothing. Thought Fenix's jaw-dropping athletics will be missed in the match, Janela's willingness to die for his art makes a suitable replacement.
". @RealBrittBaker is out of #AEWDon due to injury. We will address her status at Double or Nothing tomorrow night. @callmekrisstat will now face @thePenelopeFord Live on Pay Per View," the company said in another tweet. "Double or Nothing is available on all major providers, B/R Live and FITE TV – 8/7c" Penelope Ford will face Kris Statlander in Baker's stead.
Baker, on the other hand, might be out longer. In a four-way match on Dynamite, Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida tossed Nyla Rose onto Baker's leg. Depending on the seriousness of the injury (if it's a torn ACL) she could be out for many months. That would be a shame considering Baker has grown into one of the best heels in the company, but hopefully, she can continue to work her role model gimmick in non-wrestling skits while she recovers. This does give Ford an opportunity to shine, wrestling Kris Statlander in Baker's place at AEW Double or Nothing.
