Avatar: The Last Airbender Video: Kim Is Fine with "Daddy" or "Zaddy"
The cast of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender checks in via video - with Daniel Dae Kim sharing his thoughts on "daddy" and "zaddy."
Thanks to Showrunner Albert Kim (Sleepy Hollow, Nikita) and the Winter Solstice, we've been getting some great looks at & insights into Kim & Netflix's take on Avatar: The Last Airbender. First up, Albert Kim shared his initial feelings when he learned that original animated series creators Bryan Konietzko & Michael Dante DiMartino had stepped away from the project and how the Netflix series adjusted some of the animated series' storylines to fit a serialized drama format. Following that, the executive producer/showrunner discussed not seeing M. Night Shyamalan's (Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense) 2010 take on the animated series – but also being aware of the issues that fans had with it. Then, the Winter Solstice brought fans preview images spotlighting Gordon Cormier's Aang, Arden Cho's June, Danny Pudi's The Mechanist, Sebastian Amoruso's Jet, Maria Zhang's Suki, Tamlyn Tomita's Yukari, and Casey Camp-Horinket's Gran Gran. Now, the cast is checking in before the end of the year to offer some reassurance – including Daniel Dae Kim (Fire Lord Ozai) letting us know that he's okay with being called "daddy," "zaddy," or "baddie."
Here's a look at the cast of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender offering us a reminder of who they are ("of course"), followed by a look back at what we know about the streaming series adaptation:
And here's a look back at the teaser & official series overview for Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series that was released over the summer, set to hit screens on February 22, 2024:
Water. Earth. Fire. Air. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope.
But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang (Gordon Cormier), a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. Alongside his newfound friends Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio), siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim). But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko (Dallas James Liu) determined to capture them, it won't be an easy task. They'll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way.
