Green Day Angers Donald Trump/MAGA Fans for Being Green Day (VIDEO)

Green Day angered a lot of Donald Trump/MAGA folks for showing them that they have no clue what Green Day's about - including Elon Musk.

As we're sure you may have heard, Green Day made some headlines in all of the right ways on Sunday night during the Ryan Seacrest-hosted 52nd edition of ABC's Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2024. is currently in the middle of its 5-1/2 hours of music performances, guests, and drop-in looks at New Year's celebrations around the globe. During the band's performance from the West Coast, Green Day launched into the title track from its 2004 album, American Idiot – and that's when a lot of Donald Trump followers got a reality check from the band. Because instead of the original line, "I'm not a part of a redneck agenda," lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong updated it to, "I'm not a part of the MAGA agenda." Of course, as we all know, "MAGA" represents Trump & his worshippers' efforts to "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) by dragging it back to a time that only worked for white, straight males and pretty much sucked-ass for everyone else. Well, it seems that until Sunday night, some MAGA folks were under this misconception that they shared the same political & social positions as Green Day. Of course, how can someone call themselves a fan of a band without apparently having ever read any of their song lyrics… caught any of their interviews… or checked out a single news story regarding the band publicly expressing their views on a number of positions is a question that will have to remain unanswered.

But what we do know is that there was a lot of pearl-clutching and fanning among the MAGA folks last night and throughout most of today – again, acting as if Green Day being a punk band is something that just happened yesterday. But we think it's best that we end with a look a what the epitome of "not cool" had to say on the matter. That's right, Twitter overlord and owner of some of the worst pop culture takes in the history of mankind, Elon Musk, decided to chime in with a joke that falls so painfully flat that you can tell that the laughing emojis were paid well to put up a good front. You do you, laughing emojis – we won't judge.

Here's a look at the official clip of Green Day's performance that was released by ABC on New Year's Eve night, followed by a look at the portion of the song when Armstrong changed the lyrics to take a direct shot across the bow of Trump and his worshippers (once again, courtesy of The Tennessee Holler). Following that, we have a look back at the original music video for the single – because you can never hear that song too many times:
