Koala Man: Hulu Series Teams Hugh Jackman, Rick and Morty Co-Creator

That's one hell of a way to sell a series as Hulu announced Hugh Jackman will lead their latest animated series Koala Man from Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and Michael Cusack. Ordered straight to series in March 2021, the series revolves around middle-aged dad Kevin and his titular not-so-secret identity, whose only superpower is a burning passion for following rules and snuffing out petty crime in the town of Dapto. Though it may seem like any other Australian suburb, forces of evil (both cosmic and man-made) lie in wait to pounce on unsuspecting Daptonians. On a quest to clean up his hometown (and often roping his frustrated family into his adventures), Koala Man stands at the ready. He'll do whatever it takes to defeat villainous masterminds, supernatural horrors, or worse: jerks who don't take their rubbish bins down on the proper days.

Jackman, who is no stranger to voiceover roles with his contributions in Flushed Away (2006), Happy Feet (2006), and Missing Link (2019), will play Big Greg, the most well-liked man in Dapto and the head of the town council, who has only known success on Koala Man. Big Greg is Kevin's direct supervisor, who makes him feel inadequate as a provider and a man. To add insult to injury, Daptonians constantly credit Big Greg for Koala Man's work saving the town. Cusack (Smiling Friends) will play the title character, and his alter ego, Kevin. Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit (Detective Pikachu) serve as showrunners on the eight-episode series that also marks a reunion between Roiland and Cusack after the latter wrote and directed the 2018 Rick and Morty April Fool's special "Bushworld Adventures".

Koala Man will be produced by 20th Television Animation, which joins other Hulu animated originals, including Roiland's Solar Opposites, Marvel's Hit-Monkey, and the upcoming revival of Futurama. Emma Fitzsimmons and Michael Cowap also executive produce for Princess Bento; Scott Greenberg, Joel Kuwahara, Dana Tafoya Cameron, and Ben Jones are executive producers for Bento Box Entertainment.
